“I FELT extremely scared,” said a woman who has accused her ex-partner of sexually assaulting her against pub wall after a period of abuse.

Daniel Grant, of Piers Row, Deddington, has been accused of abusing his former partner over after a turbulent ‘on again off again’ relationship which started in January 2020.

The 38-year-old has been charged with one count each of controlling and coercive behaviour, assault by beating, sexual assault, possession of a bladed article and two counts of breaching a non-molestation order – all of which he denies.

Giving evidence at Grant’s trial at Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday (April 30), the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, spoke about an alleged sexual assault outside The Deddington Arms pub, near Bicester.

She said he had ‘forcibly’ kissed her and asked if she wanted to touch his genitals.

“At this point I was in tears,” she said. “I was crying and then he put his hand into his coat pocket and showed me a knife, a flick knife.

“He said, ‘Check this out, what do you think of it? I’m not afraid to use it.’ I froze, that’s when I was scared, I froze and I just remember crying.

“I was frozen to the spot, I didn’t know if he was going to stab me with it or use it on me, I just remember standing there frozen to the spot.”

The woman demonstrated to the jury how Grant had allegedly held the flick blade, pointed up towards her face.

“He then started getting quite nasty verbally towards me and he said to me, ‘I’ve got another woman now you fat b****, I can get any woman I want’.”

She told the jury that Grant then exposed himself so he could urinate against the pub wall.

“He asked if I wanted to touch it,” she said. “I said no thank you, no. I was in tears, I said no.”

The woman said the whole incident lasted ‘about half an hour’ before she managed to leave the pub, get in her car and go home where she proceeded to call the police.

She concluded: “I was very tearful, I couldn’t stop shaking, I couldn’t stop shaking at all. I was more scared and I felt extremely intimidated.”

Grant is also accused of controlling the woman by forcing her to come off her mental health medication, choosing what she ate despite a food intolerance, checking her phone, accusing her of cheating and criticising the way she looked.

The trial continues.
