DELAYS and spiralling costs have dogged the Seacourt Park and Ride extension project, due to be complete on April 12.

Below is a timeline of how the huge construction project has played out.

December 2017

Oxford City Council planning committee members approve the extension, and a review committee does the same in January 2018.

Members of the public shouted ‘shame!’ and ‘you should resign!’ after those meetings, with critics raising concerns about flooding and wildlife worries.

July 2018

Work begins on the extension to the park and ride.

The expansion is supposed to give the park and ride car park 1,579 spaces, up from a current 794.

The budget is set at £3.5m.

The project should be complete by summer 2020.

December 2018

The council said it has stopped the work because it wants to get it 'right'.

It doesn't start again until...

August 2019

The number of new spaces in cut from 685, down to 595 because of other building works.

February 2020

The council announces its plans to finish the car park by summer will not be possible due to flooding.

When the coronavirus pandemic hits in March, work is stopped.

April 2020

Work at the park and ride begins again in a Covid secure way.

April 2021

Following more winter delays, not just due to flooding but building supply issues caused by Brexit, the park and ride is due to be complete.
