After the first half of the new series was released on Friday, Clarkson engaged in a social media debate with fans about what the worst airport in the world was.

Posting on Monday from Spain after flying out to watch the Madrid Open, the Grand Tour star started to interact with his fans online.

“Let’s have a group chat. What’s the stupidest airport in the world? I’ll go first. Madrid,” said Clarkson on X.

Several suggestions were made to Clarkson who seemingly had an answer for many having travelled the world well with Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

One user suggested Atlanta to which the 64-year-old star responded: “Atlanta has the worst carpets that’s for sure.”

Another commenter voted for Detroit, prompting Clarkson to say: “An immigration guy once hugged me there and thanked me for coming.”

“Melbourne airport is 30 minutes away from the actual city, arrivals terminals are so outdated,” added another fan.

Clarkson disagreed and responded: “Ah now. For distance from the city the airport serves, I’d go Oslo or Denver.”

Germany was mentioned as an X user said: “Frankfurt, no question. It’s a fact.

“Actually, that’s a contender. Bring good shoes and a sturdy upper lip.”

One fan was adamant that Perth Airport was the worst and said: “Have you ever been to Perth in Western Australia?

“Perth Airport is, without question, the worst airport in the western hemisphere.”

Clarkson did not agree with the criticism of the Australian spot and retorted: “Been to Perth many times. Never had much of a problem with its airport.”

A question was asked back to the Clarkson’s Farm star amongst the 8,000 responses with a fan wondering what the best airport in the world was.

Clarkson opted for an African airport and said: “That’s actually a good question.

“I actually like Johannesburg. Good and interesting shops. Small walks.”

He also added that he was not in the Madrid premium lounge, adding: “I’m flying economy today.”

After the engrossing interaction with the web, Clarkson settled on the Spanish capital and concluded: “Anyway, to conclude the survey. Madrid is the stupidest airport in the world. By miles.”

Referencing the long walks in the airport, the former Top Gear host said: “My legs are now just stumps.”
